As some of you may know, one of the accomplishments of the de Blasio administration so far was the idNYC, a municipal ID card that has NO requirements for immigration status. Now, any New Yorker can have an ID card for FREE.
To get your idNYC, you need to 1) make sure you have the proper documents proving your identity and NYC residency - in my case, since I have an out of state driver's license, I had to bring in my passport and my utility bill 2) book an appointment, 3) go to your appointment, or else! (I don't remember what the procedure is if you miss an appointment - I couldn't find this information anywhere on the internet) 4) wait patiently for your idNYC to come in the mail - they tell you it takes up to a month, but I got mine in just over two weeks.
Here is a list of all the perks you get with your idNYC. The most exciting ones for me are the free year-long memberships at some of the top museums in the city, including the Met and the Museum of Natural History. To take advantage of this, you need to go to the museums in person and register as a member before December 31st, 2015. Your membership ends a year after the date you register at a specific museum.
Anyone else get their ID yet?
